Kabupaten Brebes menyumbang sekitar 20 persen produksi bawang merah nasional dan 60 persen produksi Jawa Tengah. Bawang merah Brebes kini mulai menembus pasar ekspor ke Thailand, Vietnam, Malaysia, dan Singapura melalui fasilitas Controlled Atmosphere Storage (CAS). Pemerintah terus mendorong perluasan pasar ekspor dan penyerapan bawang merah untuk program Makan Bergizi Gratis (MBG) guna meningkatkan kesejahteraan petani sekaligus menjaga stabilitas harga dalam negeri.
