Poin-Poin Utama

  • Geothermal expert from ITB Ali Ashat supports continued exploration of the PLTP Gunung Ungaran project.
  • The project is listed in the 2025–2034 RUPTL with a potential capacity of around 55 MW.
  • Ali stated the 55 MW potential must still be proven through exploration drilling.
  • Geothermal energy can generate electricity stably for 24 hours and is not weather-dependent, according to Ali.
  • Geothermal can serve as baseload supply and complement intermittent solar and wind renewables.
  • Geothermal is a domestic energy source requiring no imported fuel, reducing dependence on fossil energy.
  • Geothermal generally produces far lower greenhouse gas emissions than fossil fuel plants.
  • Mitigation effectiveness must be verified based on the specific conditions of Mount Ungaran.
  • The project is located near tourism areas, agricultural land, and the Gedong Songo Temple.
  • Ali believes energy development and economic or tourism activities can coexist with proper spatial planning and protection.
  • Public concerns cover water sources, environment, safety, land, agriculture, tourism, and the preservation of Gedong Songo Temple.
  • Ali called for transparency in addressing these concerns through baseline environmental data, independent experts, joint monitoring systems, and trusted complaint mechanisms.
  • Further development decisions must rest on technical and economic feasibility, environmental and cultural heritage protection, safety, and public acceptance.
