Gunung Anak Krakatau mengalami erupsi dan mengeluarkan material abu vulkanik tebal pada hari kedua pencarian lima jurnalis yang hilang kontak di Perairan Selat Sunda menggunakan speed boat sejak 7 September 2020. Kepala Kantor Pencarian dan Pertolongan Banten, Al Amrad, menyatakan bahwa tim SAR gabungan tetap melanjutkan pencarian dengan mengutamakan keselamatan personel dan menyesuaikan kondisi lapangan, meski hingga laporan pukul 15.22 WIB hasilnya masih nihil. Operasi pencarian melibatkan tujuh Search and Rescue Unit (SRU) yang menyisir sejumlah sektor menggunakan berbagai kapal dan peralatan SAR seperti drone thermal untuk menemukan delapan korban.

Weather conditions during the second day of search were observed as clear with clouds, wind speed around 14 knots, and wave height between 0.4 to 1 meter.
As of 3:22 PM WIB report from SRU 5 using KP Sanjaya, no signs of the victims had been found.
A total of seven SRUs were deployed across multiple sectors on the second day of search operations.
Sector 1 was covered by RIB 02 Banten and RIB 03 Lampung with a total distance of 67 Nautical Mile (NM).
KN SAR Tetuka 247 covered Sector 2 with a total distance of up to 68.3 NM.
KAL Anyer covered the same area with a total distance of 69.5 NM.
KP Sanjaya covered Sector 4 with a total distance of up to 67.3 NM.
KRI Leuser and KRI Lepu conducted searches in other designated sectors.
The SAR operation involved various parties including TNI, Polri, BPBD, KSOP, local communities, and victims' families.
Search equipment included ships, thermal drones, medical equipment, and communication tools.
A speedboat carrying five journalists departed from Dermaga Pagedonan, Carita, Pandeglang, on Monday (7/9) at around 2:00 PM WIB.
The last location point was sent by one of the journalists at 2:42 PM WIB, and communication was lost at 3:04 PM WIB.
